With my move to London, I needed to simplify my life and lighten my load. I scanned in a few hundred photos from my past, and bought a digital camera. I found the online photo album services unacceptable, and the prepackaged scripts equally dreadful.
My photo album scripts are PHP-based and make use of several image manipulation libraries. Thumbnails and resized images are done server-side, the first time each image is accessed. The PHP scripts scan through the folder heirarchy and present the photos in a familiar Explorer-like interface.

This is the "friend" photo album—all dynamically generated from folders and subfolders of photos. Photo names come from file names, thumbnails are generated from input files on-the-fly.
