for many issues of xy, i laid out at least half of the 120-160 page magazine. i'd map out the sections, and then weave in the individual features, sidebars and advertisements.
i've included some somewhat typical layouts [bluffers guides], some funky/stylish layouts [poetry and photos and normal heights], an information-rich layout about drugs for our "survival guide" special issue, and feaured some of my charts and graphs design work.
