the "smoking, drinking & screwing" issue explored the idea of vice—all of the things we do that we know are bad, make us feel guilty, but choose to do anyway. we had articles on pornography and strange fetishes, on drinking and procrastinating. but i needed a stellar article about smoking—exploring not just the negatives but the positives of this vice.
i found the perfect contributor for the smoking piece, my friend greg frederick. greg's writing was interesting and showed great emotion and personal insight, but didn't flow properly. i decided to rework it as a "day in the life of a smoker", structuring it as hour-by-hour glimpses of the challenges a smoker faces.
