indications book
1999 | eric | artcenter
In my typographic pursuits, I took a Letterform Design course at the Art Center College of Design. Each week we'd quickly scrawl (using chalk, pens, charcoal pencils) lines of text in whichever typeface or typefaces styles we were discussing that week.
The final project involved assembling these in some attractive fashion, into a 6" x 6" (15cm x 15cm) square. I created a hard-bound book which had alternating tissue and stock sheetsthe tissue overlays would add or subtract elements from the successive page.
I chose the lyrics to Depeche Mode's "Surrender" as my text.

A separate project involved using pen and ink to precisely refine two wordformsone in Roman script, one in Helvetica. The two words I chose were "Funky" and "Freshness". The sizing, spacing, thickness, inking and refinement were all done by hand.
